Starting a Digital Nomad experience can sometimes be scary. No more frameworks, no geographical connection and professional relations at a distance. In these conditions, finding a place to share and exchange in a pleasant climate is a good way to start the adventure. It is the own of coworkinging. More and more common in France, it is a fact abroad. Although digital nomads are able to work truly everywhere: in the airplane, in the lobby of a hotel, in a bar, on the train etc…
And we could not have fallen better than here.
The BALI DOJO, here is a place that has understood everything!
Long before he went around the world, Nicolas had spotted this coworkinging. It’s simple, when you look at the rankings of the best coworkings in the world on the excellent site Nomadlist, 3 are in Bali and the Dojo of Canggu is regularly the 1st!
Beyond the Feng Chui atmosphere, the local decor and the delicious Nalu bowls (delicious and healthy bowls based on seeds, cereals, fruits and yoghurt), we feel that the designer of this place is a real customer success manager.
The creation of the Bali Dojo
Mickaël Craig, CEO of a digital agency in Australia, his country of origin, decided to create this coworkinging just four years ago.
The focus n ° 1 of the investments that were made was obviously concerned: the INTERNET connection. And for Bali, this is a real challenge. It took no less than 6 months to build the technical infrastructure but today the Dojo can boast of having 3 internet arrivals and the best rate of the island.
The onboarding program
One of the success factors of the Dojo is probably in its newcomer reception program.
- When you arrive, a smiling and relaxed team welcomes you
- The visit to the space of coworking is made by one of the members of the team
- You choose the offer and the pricing that interest you: access on time or unlimited.
- Everything is dematerialized, you receive your bill of recess by email
- Then you just have to choose from the different spaces, no place is assigned
- on the Tuesday of your arrival, a two-hour meeting is dedicated to the new members. She talks about the history of the Dojo but also good practices on the island (such as safety on scooters, how to avoid a CB scam at the local distributor and animals that you can cross in the neighborhood).
- The rules of life are recalled: the respect of the team Dojo and the other members.
- A whole program of partners exists and you have a QR code that allows you to benefit from promotions: at the restaurant, at the local bar, for Yoga classes, surfing and many more.
- Events take place every day. Rather pros: meet up to develop, minstermind. Or rather relaxing: Members ‘ lunch, barbecue, beer and beach, foot room. They are sometimes open to the public.
- A closed Facebook group allows you to get the information quickly and quality.
- Finally, a table is available at the entrance to enhance the exchange of services : What we NEED, what we CAN SHARE with the community.
The events do you want some?
Another big highlight of the Dojo: the events! You have between one and two a day (427 last year!!), and frankly, to have done a lot in France (Nico), they are really qual and very diversified.
In a month at the Dojo, we’ve already seen:
-Meetups: Attention for the regulars of the Meetups FR, here it is very different. It is in small committee (rarely more than 10) and based on exchange and experience. The Speaker acts as a facilitator while sharing his experience.
-Masterminds: That’s genius. You come up with your idea of business, a problem you have, an object to test etc… And for a given time, those who want to find solutions, make comments, help you move forward or offer you alternatives.
-Courses: Whether for dance, local language (Mahassa), or yoga, courses are rarely oriented techs or business.
-Stories: Full of inspiring people come to pitch here their story, their experience, or anything else, that might interest the community.
-“Dojo Toastmaster”: To teach you how to pitcher way TedX (in English of course 🥳)
-Networking: It allows to know a little better the coworkers and to find the right people when you need (and conversely for you).
-More fun events: barbecues, evenings, footballs, beers, surfing, Balinese life what.
In short there are for all tastes, all trades, and all desires.
It’s Haren the boss of the events! You won’t be able to miss it.. This is the guy who imposes, who always has the smile, in a good mood, and who arrives behind you to scare you (he loves it and it makes him laugh 😂).
The organization and the communication are clear and really useful, especially on arrival. Then during our daily events, what particularly marked us is the state of mind and the calm that reigns in this place.
Everyone respects each other in a mutual way, whether for noise or material. Spaces are reserved to be quiet and the space around the pool is useful for making calls to the feet in the water, or to make a small sum in a pouf.
The members exchange among themselves and help each other with kindness (on a blog for example to solve a technical problem)
The Dojo offers a remote job platform that can be useful for finding opportunities.
If not, people come to you quickly when you are alone. By identifying the skills of everyone and the sector in which they work, you can easily imagine the needs that they might have. However, coworkers are often experienced digital nomads whose business is running well and already with a good address book.
People are less likely to approach you when you’re in a relationship. We have tried several times to work each one in our corner, and each time it is a new encounter that is created.
Do not imagine starting your business with the people here. 90% are already full and fully master their business. On the other hand no problem to ask for help or advice 😉

Living in Canggu
The icing on the cake is that the coworking is 200 m from Echo Beach a trendy place where the sunsets are spendides.
The Bali Dojo is located in the Canggu district, on the south west of the island and between Denpasar and Legian. It is on the extension of Kuta Beach then from Seminyak, but the ambience is completely different.
Here it is the Surfers ‘ district, the organic cafes and the discolored Australian Bobos. This is for the cliché. Canggu is especially a cosmopolitan, Hyper dynamic area with designer shops, surfing and good places to nibble. To be closer to the local life we live 20 minutes from the Dojo to the north by going to Dalung. It’s more popular but the guest houses are real havens of peace.
Everything is almost perfect
There are still a few things that have marked us, without great gravity of course.
First of all the price of meals/snack/drink from here. As a DN and Tourdumondistes, we are not close to our money, but we are forced to be careful. And the delta between the map of the dojo and the small Warung of the corner is simple to triple.
Then there is English. Here everyone speaks perfectly English:). Whether in the events, between co-workers or with the staff the level is excellent. Prepare yourself, because for us who do not have a horrible level (we manage, we are understood etc…), here it goes… very quickly 🙃 the positive point is that no one judge you and no one closes the conversation because you said “Waze” rather than “Wave” 😅 #Nico
