Gwk Cultural Park

When we landed in Bali, we were immediately curious to see a big mushroom that came out on the peninsula of the island … Without really being able to distinguish it, we saw the GWK Cultural Park.

Then from the beach of Semyniak, the same, we imagined in the distance a huge building alone and exceeding at least 100m all other buildings around (well, there are few buildings in Bali ^^)

It was enough for us to decide to go through this mystery …

VISIT OF GWK CULTURAL PARK

So we arrived on a Sunday morning in the cool (8h) to visit this park. It’s about Bali Cultural Park or GWK (Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park) dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and his mount Garuda, the mythical bird that became his companion.

At your entrance to the park, you can not miss this monument: the statue measures 120 m, a beautiful blue color integrating the sky and clouds. It was made of copper and brass. It took 25 years to build it !!!

Before arriving at the biggest statue, you will come across the huge bust of Wisnu, the real-life Garuda head and other gardens and fountains. Let’s be clear the main status really takes over the rest, but the charm of the place (without tourists!) Is very nice to hang out. You will walk in impressive trenches of more than 20 m, in Zen gardens and in the middle of the Balinese savannah.

It feels very small … It’s quiet (Sunday 8am before the arrival of the bus of chi … tourists) and a music accompanies you during the visit.

Throughout the day, free shows take place in the amphitheater at the entrance to the park. On the program: music, Indonesian dances, and local curiosities. Although the musicians do not look happy to be there, the dancers are beautiful. It’s a little disturbing because they dance only with their huge hands and their wandering eyes.

No doubt this place will become a stronghold of mass tourism: just 20 minutes from the airport and with the shopping center planned just under the statue ????! Go ahead before it’s too late, it’s worth a look ^^

How much does the entrance fee to the park cost?

The entry price of GWK Cultural Park is 125 000 Rp so far about $ 8. It’s expensive, it’s cheap, the debate packs the canvas. We, we found it really nice to do, it takes 2 hours, and you can enjoy all day if you want shows of the amphitheater (You will not hold all day, but still, it is possible) . In + you have an original tea offered on the panoramic restaurant. Make your own opinion ????

What to do around the cultural park?

We definitely recommend Jimbaran Beach, which is only 10 minutes away from Bali’s GWK Park.

If you are the type “early risers”, you can go to the fish market which takes place at 6am. A rather exceptional place where colors, smells, noises, and good humor mix! We loved seeing the boats come in, and all the local restaurateurs negotiate their fish, sometimes on the beach. Stroll along the market aisles, fish reign supreme, and the place is … typical :).

Finally, at noon, you can enjoy an excellent lobster (which you can usually choose in the back shop) feet in the water! (tested and approved – thank you Vero)
